Have you ever thought about volunteering?
The Secret Garden, a not-for-profit service managed by Northwest Disability Services, is putting out a call to the general public to try out the rewards that come with being a Secret Garden volunteer.
This community and therapy garden on the grounds of UWS Hawkesbury has indeed been one of the Hawkesbury’s best kept secrets for over 21 years. With new and exciting projects set for the near future, the Secret Garden isn’t such a secret anymore, and our inclusive and enthusiastic community of staff and volunteers is in need of all kinds of new faces; short term or longterm, young or old, speciality-skilled or generally-skilled. We could really use people with trades and specialised skills for specialised tasks, but whoever you are, you’re someone with gifts, personality and ability that we value.
The Secret Garden’s motto is “Bringing Sustainability To Life” and with the exciting construction of the new Secret Garden site taking place RIGHT NOW, we’re looking for people with a heart to build a community!
Whether you can give an hour or a week, we could really use your help.
Some jobs we will be doing in the future are:
– plant care in our nursery
– construction on our new site
– paving
– making and preparing mud bricks for use in our special project
– animal care
– general garden maintenance tasks
Interested? Do you have a positive attitude and great inspiration you could bring to our new site?
Perhaps you have more generalised skills and would enjoy the social activity of helping to run our nursery. All profits from the sale of our plants go directly back into providing our various services to the community. That’s great news and a wonderful achievement to be a part of.
