Volunteer Profile: David & Diane Griffin

Ask anyone at the Secret Garden and they'll tell you that the Griffins are a part of the furniture that nobody could do without. What's their reason for being such loyal and happy volunteers at the Secret Garden? What keeps them coming back?

"I've always volunteered, anyway," says Diane as she tends to a wayward potato vine. "I volunteered at schools and that sort of thing, and that's how I ended up being a teacher's aide. It's just gone on from there. We saw an ad for the Secret Garden in the paper and thought we'd give it a try."

David adds, "The main reason we love it here is because we can do this together. It's one of the few places where you can volunteer and do things together."

"But we're still not in each others' pockets!" says Diane. "David will go off and do something, and I'll be in another part of the Garden, but we're still here together."

"Flexibility is a big part of it. We can choose when we come, and for how long. We usually try and keep to the same days... Wednesdays and Fridays. The other thing too is the lovely community atmosphere. It's really nice, and everybody's here for the right reasons."
